Sunday of Orthodoxy Procession

Parishioners from St. Orthodox Lawrence Orthodox Church participated in the annual procession celebrating the restoration of the holy icons on March 24, 2024.

In 842 A.D. the Empress Theodora summoned the Synod of Constantinople to bring peace to the Church. The council affirmed the legitimacy of the Seventh Ecumenical Council, which declared iconoclasm a heresy in 787 A.D. and that icons should be venerated but not worshiped. On the first Sunday in Great Lent 843 A.D., the icons and their veneration were officially restored to the Orthodox Church.
